Terra Alta studies how to reuse biomass from forests and crop fields

The first meeting took place this past Tuesday, July 9.

 

On July 9, 2024, the First Meeting of the Biomass Use Table (MAB) was held in the Terra Alta region. This initiative, organized by Símbiosy and the Terra Alta Regional Council with the collaboration of the Bioenergy Cluster of Catalonia, marks the beginning of an ambitious project to promote the sustainable use of biomass in the region.

Project Objectives and Opportunities

Símbiosy presented the project highlighting the key needs in forest management, especially with regard to pruning remains and the production of wood chips for heat network projects. The importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors was emphasized to achieve efficient and responsible biomass management.   The main points discussed included:

  • Use of pruning remains
  • Infrastructure and markets

Participants shared their experiences and visions on the challenges and opportunities of the project:
  • Challenges in forest cleaning
  • Involvement of private owners
  • Local consumer centers
 

Future Plans

The MAB was well received by the participants, who expressed their commitment to work together in promoting the sustainable use of biomass in Terra Alta. This first meeting served as a starting point for a project that aims not only to manage forest resources efficiently, but also to promote economic development and environmental sustainability in the region.
