Project description

SCRAP STORE 22@ was created as a meeting point between entities with surplus materials (for example, pieces of methacrylate, buttons, fabric scraps, or other by-products) and agents that can reuse them for social, educational, or productive purposes: schools, reintegration companies, designers, recycled product initiatives, etc.

The project seeks to activate synergies between companies and citizens to promote the circular economy in Barcelona, through a private initiative with a vocation for public service that requires the involvement of municipal actors and the social ecosystem. The development has had institutional support from the Waste Agency of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya).

Results

  • Database of by-products available in Barcelona.
  • Public-private business model that supports the store.
  • Identification of 3 key profiles: donors – takers – collaborators.

To highlight

  • Project conceived as a citizen reference for the circular economy in Barcelona, connecting the productive fabric and social/creative entities.
  • Practical approach: construction of a database, operating model, and mapping of actors to facilitate implementation.
  • High potential for replicability as an urban “hub” for materials and by-products.
