Penedès Circular – Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis in Alt Penedès
Penedès Circular is the supramunicipal project that promotes the circular economy in the Alt Penedès region through industrial symbiosis, identifying and activating collaboration opportunities between companies based on their surplus resources.

Context and objective
Alt Penedès has a diverse productive fabric, strongly linked to the wine and industrial sector, which generates a large amount of by-products and material flows with high potential for valorization.
Penedès Circular was created with the aim of converting these surplus resources into new economic opportunities, promoting cooperation between companies and entities in the territory to advance towards a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable production model.
Project development
The project is structured as a regional action plan based on:
- Identification of surplus resources and business needs.
- Detection of industrial symbiosis opportunities and new business models.
- Creation of governance and public-private coordination spaces.
- Technical support to companies for the implementation of circular solutions.
The initiative combines technical analysis, business promotion, and continuous training to ensure a real and sustained impact on the territory.
Results obtained
- Elaboration of the Alt Penedès circular economy action plan.
- Creation and coordination of a regional driving group as a governance system.
- Organization of periodic circular training and networking sessions, active continuously since 2020.
- Facilitation of collaborative projects, such as the joint management of vine pruning remains for biomass.
- Provision of free advice to companies in the region since 2021.
