Objective

The territory formed by the municipalities of Sabadell, Barberà del Vallès, and Sant Quirze del Vallès has a consolidated history of more than ten years promoting industrial symbiosis through the Simbiosi Industrial project, a pioneer in Catalonia as a public service to companies from the municipal economic promotion departments.

After a decade of experience, the project addresses a review and update of the Industrial Symbiosis Strategic Plan, adapting it to the new challenges of the territory and defining a 2024–2027 Action Plan that establishes the basis for the implementation of future circular economy and business collaboration initiatives.

The project includes the updating of the analysis of the industrial ecosystem, through a Resource Mapping, as well as participatory work with companies and key actors in the territory, combining work sessions, technical contrast, and joint validation of opportunities.

Resource mapping service for the circular economy that shows industrial synergy schemes, a territorial map of waste flows, and analysis graphs to transform waste into development opportunities.

Results obtained

  • Updated Industrial Symbiosis Strategic Plan aligned with the current challenges of the territory.
  • 2024–2027 Action Plan with priority lines and specific actions.
  • Solid foundations for the deployment of new industrial symbiosis initiatives in Vallès Occidental.
  • Reinforcement of the supramunicipal model of public-private collaboration as a service to companies.
