Territorial Industrial Symbiosis
The Baix Empordà is a region rich in agricultural and forestry resources, with a strategic location well connected to Europe. However, it faced the challenge of a high unemployment rate and the need to modernize its industrial fabric.
Faced with this scenario, five municipalities (La Bisbal, Forallac, Cruïlles, Monells and Sant Sadurní de l’Heura-Corçà and Ullastret) joined forces to develop a joint Strategic Plan.
“The objective is to convert the problem and cost of waste management into real economic development opportunities for the territory.”
The project identifies opportunities from the surplus resources of the territory, promoting cooperation between neighboring companies to create shared value.

Improvement of the recovery of plastic waste and packaging.
Use of renewable fuels present in the area.
Registration of shared energy consumption.
Development projects for new circular products/processes.
Reduction of the generation of trivial waste and waste mixtures.

Recovery of objects in the recycling centers (deixalleries).
