Objective

The project aims to improve the economic, social, and environmental performance of the productive fabric of Carate Brianza by identifying and valorizing waste with the potential to become resources.

Based on an initial diagnosis, the flows of urban, agricultural, commercial, and industrial waste in the territory are analyzed, with a special focus on plastic, wood, metal, and mixed waste. The project seeks to generate new local business opportunities, especially oriented to small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting circular economy and industrial symbiosis models.

The analysis is supported by a detailed territorial study and the identification of technologies and transformation processes necessary to convert waste into usable by-products within the territory itself.

Results obtained

  • Identification and quantification of resources with valorization potential in the territory.
  • Prioritization of circular economy strategies around plastic, wood, metal, and mixed waste.
  • Identification of technologies and transformation processes necessary for waste valorization.
  • Proposal for a joint collection system to separate and valorize the fraction of mixed waste currently destined for landfill.
  • Detection of local business opportunities linked to the transformation of waste into by-products.

To highlight

  • First application in Italy of the Syner platform for the analysis of the agro-urban-industrial metabolism of a territory.
  • Identification of potential local markets for the valorization of plastic, wood, and metal waste.
  • Generation of immediate opportunities for SMEs to transform and valorize their waste within the territory itself.
  • Integrated economic, social, and environmental approach, aligned with inclusive circular economy models.
