Two new industrial symbiosis projects have started this year involving 6 more municipalities working on the circular economy from the productive fabric. There are now 141 municipalities in total in Spain working on industrial symbiosis in 14 different projects that include 16,000 manufacturing companies.
The two new projects are:
1. Identification and promotion of circular economy opportunities in Penedès (Vilafranca del Penedès City Council and Garraf-Penedès Association of Municipalities). Regional project to detect opportunities based on an analysis of the industrial ecosystem, free advice to companies and training for local technical personnel.

2. Mapping of material/energy/waste flows in the industrial areas of Vitoria-Gasteiz. With the aim of identifying and quantifying the flows of materials in the industrial ecosystem of Vitoria, as well as potential synergies between the participating companies, this project begins in June 2020 in collaboration with ENT and CIMAS as a first step to facilitate the transition of the productive sectors and companies towards circular business models.
