Involved in the deployment of industrial symbiosis in Europe

November 20, 2023

Simbiosy

At Símbiosy, we continue to work on several European projects that aim to boost the circular economy in the community territory through industrial symbiosis. This November, we have started two new projects, INSET and LIAISE, and on the other hand, we remain committed to the BioBoost and Reconstruct projects.

From Insight to INSET: training in industrial symbiosis

After the success of the Insight project, we wanted to continue promoting the training of facilitators in industrial symbiosis through the INSET project, funded by the Erasmus+ program. INSET focuses on training and awareness in the field of industrial symbiosis, with the aim of implementing it through a disruptive, digital, and practical approach, aimed at companies and their collaborators.

LIAISE: fostering industrial symbiosis

The COST Action LIAISE aims to ensure an inclusive and holistic approach to industrial symbiosis, generating significant synergies between different actors, laying the foundations for the development of knowledge and promoting research and development (R) oriented to future results. To this end, thematic working groups will be established focusing on industrial symbiosis, addressing key aspects such as technical synergies, business models, promotion of awareness and acceptance, as well as dissemination and exploitation.

BIOBOOST: two years promoting the bioeconomy in Catalonia

It is already the second year of BioBoost, within the Horizon Europe program, and we continue with our commitment to accelerate and support projects related to the bioeconomy in Catalonia free of charge, reducing investment risks and implementation times in this field. Recently, we have incorporated two new initiatives: the creation of a pilot plant for wool processing in Vallès Oriental and the launch of an open access plant for the industrial pre-scaling of extraction, production and transformation processes of alternative protein within the framework of BioHub Cat.

RECONSTRUCT: transforming construction with eco-efficient alternatives

Within the framework of Horizon Europe, the Reconstruct project focuses on the search for low-carbon alternatives to Portland cement and on the management of construction and demolition waste (CDW). New products will also be developed to allow the design for disassembly of structures and reach a level close to zero CDW. To this end, we will carry out two territorial pilots in Barcelona and Brussels, thus contributing to the promotion of sustainable solutions in the field of construction.
